"King and Queen" is the second song by Melanie Martinez for her second studio album, Fairytale Dreams.
Theme[]
This song is about Sophia's parents (Cry Baby and an unknown man) breaking up after having gotten engaged. This is because of Sophia's father not caring about her and making Cry Baby very upset.
Lyrics[]
Italics= DFG
Bold= Both
I thought that things
Were going so well
You gave me a ring
And then put me through hell
Built us a castle
With a ruby coated throne
Mommy made me feel like a princess
Daddy said leave me alone
It's a shame that the beautiful shit
Had to fade away
But this is when the king and queen
Part separate ways
It's a shame that the painful shit
Was here to stay
But this is when the king and queen
Part separate ways
The king and queen
Part separate ways
I thought that things
Were going so well
But the plastic crowns we made
They had to melt
All the other girls with their
Tiaras and tutus
They don't have to live in a house
That's broken in two
It's a shame that the beautiful shit
Had to fade away
But this is when the king and queen
Part separate ways
It's a shame that the painful shit
Was here to stay
But this is when the king and queen
Part separate ways
The king and queen
Part separate ways
I thought that things
Were going so well
It's a shame that the beautiful shit
Had to fade away
But this is when the king and queen
Part separate ways
It's a shame that the painful shit
Was here to stay
But this is when the king and queen
Part separate ways
The king and queen
Part separate ways
Music Video[]
The music video is set in Cry Baby's house and alternates between scenes where Cry Baby loves and cares for Sophia and scenes where her father ignores her despite her desperate cries. In the end, Cry Baby screams at her fiancé and kicks him out of the house.
Trivia[]
- Veteran crybabies loved this song and Does a Boy Love You due to the songs being callbacks to Melanie's acoustic era.
