"Intervals" is an unreleased song by Melanie Martinez. It was written for her acoustic extended play, however, it was later scrapped.
Background[]
This was recorded during Melanie's acoustic era before she was signed to a label. It was meant for an acoustic EP.
Theme[]
The exact meaning of the song is unknown, however, it is likely that it is about a breakup that Melanie went through in the past. She loves this boy a lot and would do anything for him. In the song, Melanie sings, "You live so far away from me", likely meaning that the boy she was in love with moved away and they had to break up.
Another theory is that the boy was visiting New York (where Melanie lived at the time) and Melanie met him, quickly falling in love with him. However, he lived in another city far away and they couldn't be together.
