Girl Singers Movement (originally titled Girl Singers) is Melanie Martinez's fifth studio album. Melanie began working on it on an unknown date in 2019, and finished it in 2021. The Target Exclusive includes two bonus tracks.
Melanie embarked on the Girls Can Sing Tour beginning in October 2022. She is bringing everyone who is featured with her on tour to sing. The second leg begins on TBA.
Background & Promotion[]
Melanie began working on this album in 2019, and finished it 2021. Melanie (and the featured artists) wrote the album songs between 2019 and 2020. Melanie included a song from the After School EP in the Target Exclusive.
She revealed in an Instagram Q&A in 2020 that her fifth studio album would have 12 featured artists, excluding herself, and they're all women. She also revealed in that Q&A that she had written all of the songs already, and recorded three songs. It was later revealed that those songs were "hurt", "School", and "Misbehave".
Billie Eilish posted a picture to her instagram in 2019 with a caption saying "Hanging with my twelve b*tches until we release!" The picture had Melanie in it, so fans started to speculate a collab album with Melanie.
In 2020, someone leaked a fanmade album cover through Melanie's site's source code. The cover said "Women's Rights Movement". Melanie later found out and decided to share the title of the album with her fans.
On August 13th, 2020, Melanie posted a picture on Instagram which was later deleted, but some fans took a screenshot. Melanie was posing in front of a chalkboard saying every featured artist, but the screenshots were very low quality. You could only see the names "Nicki Minaj", "Billie Eilish", "Dua Lipa", and "Sia". In an interview with V Magazine two weeks later, Melanie named each featured artist.
On June 30th, Melanie posted an image on Instagram of the Target Exclusive album.[1]

Story[]
The album tells the story of Crybaby getting through High School. Melanie claims that the story is the life she wanted when she was in High School, but there are still some bad things.
