Melanie Martinez shared a fragment of the cover on her Instagram account on September 13, 2020 announcing that she would publish a cover of "Cupid", a day later a homemade music video of her at home with friends was published (fans are also shown ) just having fun. In a Q&A Melanie said that her inspiration had been the cover of Amy Winehouse on her album "Back to Black: B-Sides".
A limited version of 500 physical copies went on sale on Melanie's official website and all copies were sold in less than eight hours.
The CD single came with a heart-shaped letter written by Melanie Martinez as a gift, later a plastic red rose was added to the official store that served as a keychain and a teddy bear in brown or pearl color.
