"Dead Flower" is the fourth track on Melanie's fourth studio album, Gummies.
Theme[]
This song is about what Cry Baby was plotting during Chalkboard. As it turns out, she was plotting to kill Sophia's father by trapping him in a hole he couldn't climb out of and he eventually dies of thirst after not having anything to drink for too long.
Lyrics[]
You were a flower
A pretty one at that
But you smelled like a dead body
Well, now you are one, too
I was so caught up
In the sights and sounds
Of the trees rustling in the breeze
But when I managed to look past your pretty face
I managed to see you were the bane of the human race
You were nothing but a pretty purple corpse flower
Now you're a dead flower, dead flower
There are plenty of other fish in the sea
Other flowers in the garden staring at me
I happen to have quite a green thumb
I pity anyone who saw the good in you
Oh wait, that was me
I was so caught up
In the sights and sounds
Of the trees rustling in the breeze
But when I managed to look past your pretty face
I managed to see you were the bane of the human race
You were nothing but a pretty purple corpse flower
Now you're a dead flower, dead flower
Oh, but when I managed to look past your pretty face
I managed to see you were the bane of the human race
You were nothing but a pretty purple corpse flower
Now you're a dead flower, dead flower
'Cause when flowers don't get water, they die
Trivia[]
- The "dead body" lyric is possibly a reference to Band Aid.
